Internationally acclaimed Hard Day’s Night to perform

DALLAS October 4, 2012 MakeAWay Charities, a nonprofit charitable organization committed to helping working families in temporary financial crisis find their way out of adversity and get back on their feet, announces today that NFL legend Emmitt Smith, along with his wife Pat Smith, will serve as honorary chairs in absentia at the 4th annual silent auction/gala benefitting the charity. Internationally renowned Beatles tribute band Hard Day’s Night will perform at the event.

MakeAWay Charities Get Groovy Gala presented by Generational Equity will take place at The Westin Galleria in Dallas on Saturday, October 27. Doors open at 6 p.m.

The gala evening is a 60s themed event, featuring entertainment by the internationally top-rated Beatles tribute band, Hard Day’s Night, and 60s-themed dancing by Arthur Murray Dance Studios. The silent and live auctions will include luxury vacations, including a dream trip to Paris with your own guide, courtesy of and hosted by la Madeleine founder Patrick Esquerre, customized to suit your taste. This includes a Seine river cruise aboard the host’s yacht, dinner at bistros including La Relais de Venise, and site-seeing at landmarks including the Louvre and Arc de Triomphe. Other items to be auctioned include sports tickets, high-end jewelry, and more.

MakeAWay exists to prevent short-term financial emergencies from becoming catastrophes, says Jay Hellwig, MakeAWay Charities executive director. By providing the right assistance at the right time, we can prevent the domino effect of debt and poverty that may plague a family during hard times. At our upcoming gala, we look forward to hearing the stories of some of our beneficiaries, and announcing our plans for growth in 2013.

MORE

Since the organization’s founding in 2008, MakeAWay Charities has assisted more than 1,000 families in North Texas, including helping more than 800 families avoid foreclosure and eviction. Donations to typically self-sufficient families allow families to stay in their homes, repair vehicles to transport children to school and commute to work, and not have to choose between keeping electricity or getting needed medical help. Assisting single parents is also a priority for MakeAWay Charities. The help provided by MakeAWay can often mean the difference between further fractured families and families on the road to recovery. In addition to providing temporary financial assistance to families in need, MakeAWay provides free financial education courses.

MakeAWay supports setting up families for long-term success, says Ryan Binkley, president and CEO of Generational Equity. We appreciate that 100% of their benefitting families are self- sufficient, hard-working families who have been dealt a blow in life they can’t surmount. We are thrilled to support this cause that fuels family perseverance.

MakeAWay Charities hosts three signature annual fundraisers: MakeAWay Golf Classic presented by Generational Equity (4th annual held at Four Seasons Dallas at Las Colinas, September 21, 2012), Get Groovy With MakeAWay presented by Generational Equity (4th annual gala and silent auction, October 27, 2012), and Generational Equity Cupid Dash (3rd annual 10K, 5K and fun run at Plano, TX Shops at Legacy, February 16, 2013.)

Donors and sponsors of this year’s Get Groovy Gala benefiting MakeAWay Charities include: Generational Equity ($50,000), PM Standley Motors ($11,200), la Madeleine ($6,000), and Photo Stat ($5,000). About MakeAWay Charities

MakeAWay Charities, a charitable nonprofit, was founded in 2008 to provide direct assistance to self-sufficient families in unexpected, temporary financial crisis and remain out of poverty. The nonprofit primarily focuses on assisting families in the local community, but also extends its reach in dire times, such as the disaster relief it provided with materials and volunteers after a tornado devastated the town of Joplin, Missouri, in 2011 and Forney, Texas in 2012, and recently supported victims of Hurricane Isaac in Louisiana.
